I've written a play, please give me advice on how to pitch it.

I've written songs practically all my life, I have an artist that I'm collaborating with but I'm unsure on where to start. What is the best approach to writing for someone else? Is it the same as usual? Do I need to distance myself from the writing so it's less personal to me?

What is the best way to use feedback and critiques and is it okay disregard it if it begins to compromise the story or idea?
